Salt and Pepper Tofu

This recipe is a vegetarian dish that is made with tofu, onion, garlic and other spices. Resulting in a side dish that is flavorful and has an interesting texture.

Salt and Pepper Tofu

You’ll need:

1 package firm tofu
1/2 cup corn starch
5-10 clove of garlic
1 yellow onion
2-3 stalk green onion
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp. black pepper
1/2 tbsp. five-spice
1/2 tbsp. msg (optional)
1/2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 to 1/2 cup of oil

Directions:

  1. Cut the tofu into small cubes, then dry off the tofu with a paper towel. Add the cubed tofu into a mixing bowl
  2. Add corn starch into the mixing bowl with the tofu and mix to coat all of the tofu (add in more corn starch if needed). Set the coated tofu aside to prepare the other ingredient
  3. Dice the garlic and add to a separate bowl
  4. Peel and slice the onion into half rings and add to the same bowl as the garlic
  5. Cut the green onions in half and slice the green and white part separately
  6. Add the white part of the green onion to the bowl with the garlic and onion
  7. Add salt, pepper, five-spice, sugar, msg into a small bowl and mix
  8. Heat the pan with oil on medium heat
  9. Once the oil is hot, add in the coated tofu. Make sure all the tofu are touching the pan
  10. Stir the tofu every 1 to 2 mins for about 8-13 mins or until golden, Remove the tofu
  11. Add in the bowl with the onions, garlic, and green onion and sauté for 1-2 mins, add the tofu back in and stir
  12. Add in the seasoning mix, start with half the mix then add more to suit your taste
  13. Serve immediately and garnish with the rest of the green onions!
